35 years of practice dedicated to maritime and insurance law. We are publishing a collection of articles written by the firm’s attorneys over the past decade.

By: Albors Galiano Portales

To mark our 35th anniversary, we have published a volume that brings together the work produced by the firm’s attorneys over the past decade, titled “35 Years of Practice in Maritime and Insurance Law.” The volume, dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and partner Javier Galiano Salgado (1951–2021), builds upon and completes the compilation published in 2015 to mark our 25th anniversary, bringing together another ten years of legal work. The book is organized into the two major thematic areas that make up our primary practice: maritime law and insurance law.

In the field of maritime law, a wide range of topics are addressed, such as limitation of liability, the preventive attachment of ships, charter and salvage contracts, autonomous ships, electronic bills of lading, and the UNCITRAL Convention on the Judicial Sale of Ships. In the field of insurance law, topics such as ten-year liability insurance, marine insurance, cyber risks, war coverage, and the issues raised by insurer subrogation are analyzed, among others.

We have had the privilege of including forewords by our dear friends Julio Carlos Fuentes Gómez, Deputy Director General of Maritime Regulations at the Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility, and Pilar Perales Viscasillas, Professor of Commercial Law at Carlos III University of Madrid. Their kind words join those written in 2015 by Jose Luis Gabaldón in the foreword to the book we published to mark our 25th anniversary. We extend our most sincere gratitude to them. We would also like to thank the entire firm’s team who contributed to this project, and especially Juan Pablo Rodriguez Delgado, Associate Professor of Commercial Law at Carlos III University and of counsel to the firm, and Jaime Albors, a partner at the firm, for their invaluable assistance in preparing and publishing this work.
